Letters From Home Project

Photo of veteran with letter from homeLoutit District Library has begun collecting and digitizing letters to and from local service people and their families. Called “Letters from Home,” this ongoing project promises to become an important historical archive, and an invaluable opportunity for us all to learn from them, in their own words, what service to this country meant, and how vital were the letters which they received from home. If you are fortunate enough to have letters to, or from, those who served in the military, whether during times of peace or war, we ask that you allow us to add copies of this correspondence to our collection. Simply bring your letters to the Local History Department during regular library hours. We will immediately copy or scan your letters and return the originals back to you that same day. All veterans and their families are invited to our kickoff event at the library on Thursday, November 3, at 7:00 p.m. to join in a discussion about their experiences with letters from home moderated by Ken Kelly of the American Legion. For more information, call or e-mail Jeanette Weiden at 842-5560, ext 225, or jweiden@loutitlibrary.org.
