The purpose of the Friends of the Loutit District Library is to maintain an association of persons interested in libraries; to focus public attention on the library; to stimulate the use of the library’s resources and services; to receive and encourage gifts, endowments, and bequests to the library; to support and cooperate with the library staff in developing library services and facilities for the community; to lend legislative support where needed; and to support the freedom to read as expressed in the American Library Association Bill of Rights.

The Friends strengthen the library’s resources and services which cannot be funded through the tax-supported budget. To this end, we stock, staff, and run the Cheapstacks Used Book Store on the Lower Level of the Library.

The Friends of Loutit District Library have been involved in the following activities:

  • The purchase of furniture and equipment for the library, including the public copy machine
  • The purchase of books, audio books, magazine subscriptions, and DVDs
  • The support of library programs, including Cabin Fever Reliever, Beachcomber’s Book Bingo, the children’s and teen Summer Reading Program, and additional special programs by providing snacks, prizes, and decorations.

You can become involved with the Friends of Loutit District Library! The Friends meet in Cheapstacks on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. during the school year.

Guests are always welcome.
