When you visit the Local History and Genealogy Department, you’ll find a wealth of print materials, photographs, historical documents, oral histories, videos, and microfilm of the Grand Haven Tribune. We’re working hard to digitize many of these materials to make them available from our website. Please be patient while we work to bring them to you.

Researching the History of Your Home/Property
Researching the history of any property requires time and patience, but our collection is a great place to start. With the Grant for Preservation Collection on microfilm, you can access original records, including tax assessment and rolls, federal population censuses records for Ottawa County, and more. We can also offer Grand Haven city directories (from 1914 to present), Grand Haven telephone directories (1920 to present), early Grand Haven city records, plat maps, and historic atlases. In A Directory of Buildings and Sites in Northwest Ottawa County, you can search property histories in the city of Grand Haven by street address. Visit www.grandhaven.org to view the Grand Haven Historic Conservation Commission’s brochure and map of Historic Districts. Records of building permits are available at Grand Haven City Hall, located at 519 Washington Avenue.
For property deeds, property description and mapping, county tax records and probate records, visit the Ottawa County Administrative Offices at 12220 Fillmore Street, West Olive. Some property resources are searchable from the county’s website at miottawa.org. Original County Surveys may be examined at the Ottawa County Road Commission, 14110 Lakeshore Drive, in Grand Haven Township. Call 616-842-5400 to schedule an appointment.
