Summer Reading Challenge

The Loutit District Library invites you to take part in The Grand Adventure this summer, a lifelong learning game with something for everyone! Whether you are reading on the beach, listening to a road trip audiobook, or attending a library program, earn Adventure Points while you read, learn, and have fun!
We’ve reimagined this year’s challenge to make it more interactive, more rewarding, and even more fun for all ages. Expect more ways to read, play, and explore all summer long. We’re encouraging the whole community to join The Grand Adventure. Participation is free; you don’t have to have a library card, and the challenge is open to everyone! Registration is open now!
The Basics
As a participant in The Grand Adventure, you can earn points by reading, attending library programs, and exploring the community to find Activity Codes! Collect 500 points to receive your finisher prize! Finisher prizes will be available beginning Monday, June 8. Every 100 points earned is an additional entry into a grand prize drawing of your choice.
Point guidelines:
• Earn 1 point for each minute of reading (e.g. 30 min. = 30 points).
• Earn 25—100 points for collecting Grand Adventure activity codes.
(The more complicated the activity, the more points you'll earn!)
Read (anything!)
Each minute of reading is another point closer to your goal! Any type of reading counts for your minutes. You can read a magazine, eBook, graphic novel, newspaper, or listen to an audiobook -- just keep reading! It’s that simple! You may choose to log your minutes on the Beanstack Tracker App or with a paper reading log. Not sure what to read? Try one of our staff picks.
Find Activity Codes
We’ve hidden over 70 Activity Codes throughout the library and the community, each worth additional points in The Grand Adventure. Some are easy to spot; others take a bit more effort. Enter codes in the Beanstack app under “Activities” to earn virtual badges worth 25, 50, or even 100 points! Here’s one to get you started: enter in SHORE under the Ice Cream activity on Beanstack!
Attend Programs
We have a calendar full of exciting events for all ages and interests! Start the summer with our Grand Adventure Kick-Off Party on Saturday, June 6, and explore our calendar to see all of the upcoming library programs. Each program space in the library has its own Activity Code—how many can you find this summer?
Claim Your Finisher Prize!
Collect 500 points to receive your finisher prize, available for pickup at the library starting Monday, June 8. Finisher prizes vary by age and include things like free books and coupons for free boba tea, macarons, car washes, and more!
Enter Grand Prize Drawings!
In addition, for every 100 Adventure Points you earn, you'll receive one virtual ticket to enter into one of our grand prize drawings. Tickets can be earned and entered via the Beanstack app. The more points you collect, the better your chances of winning! Keep on reading and adventuring to earn another ticket for every 100 additional points you earn (up to 5,000 points or 50 tickets per participant).
This year's Grand Prize drawings include: LEGO sets for all age groups, tickets to popular West MI attractions, musical instruments, and gift cards to local businesses! View the Tickets tab in Beanstack to see all available grand prize options. Winners will be contacted the week of August 10.

Get Started
Registration for The Grand Adventure opens Friday, May 15! If you have used the Beanstack website or app in previous years, simply log in and join the 2026 Grand Adventure challenge. For those who are new to Beanstack, click here to register, or download the Beanstack Tracker App on the Apple App Store, or the Google Play Store for Android.
Everyone who signs up for the Grand Adventure will receive a coupon for a free book at the Cheapstacks Used Book Store here at the library, courtesy of the Friends of the Loutit District Library. If you register online, just let a staff member know during your next visit to receive your coupon.
Prefer paper? Reading logs are available for tracking minutes and a select list of Activity Codes. For the full Activity Code experience, we recommend using the Beanstack app.
Grand Prize Tickets can be submitted until Friday, August 7. Grand Prize Winners will be contacted throughout the following week of August 10. The last day to pick up Finisher Prizes and Extra Mile Patches is Friday, August 14.
